What's in Store for you at The Ruddy

It's a new year and the warm kitchen and its wonderful potential beckons. Here is the time for making jam, baking, experimenting with ethnic foods, trying new cheeses and dense breads. Here’s a look at the winter lineup.

Produce Check out What's in Season: many wonderful meals can be made year round with local produce.

Meat The Ruddy tries to offer a range of meat products for every budget. We carry quality conventional meats at great prices: chicken breasts, whole chickens and ground beef. We also continue to stock a variety of organic and natural meat products from Bowen’s Alderwood Farm and North Vancouver’s British Butcher Shoppe. These meat products are from naturally raised livestock, with no preservatives or additives.

Groceries The Ruddy has a full complement of natural, organic and healthy grocery items, including baking supplies and canned goods. From Annie’s Pasta for a quick kid’s meal, Thai sauces to enhance meats and fresh seafood, frozen pizzas and ice cream, to basic ingredients for any recipe: it’s all nutritious and delicious.

Seafood Serve up something a little different and try a fresh seafood recipe. Not only is the taste of the ocean a delightful change from routine meat and vegetable dishes, fish (oily fish, salmon) are one of the few great sources of important Omega 3s. The Ruddy is part of the Ocean Wise sustainable seafood project, and is very picky about its sourcing in this area. Look for wild salmon, local oysters and mussels, hand peeled shrimp and other delicious sustainable seafood choices. FRIDAY is Fish Day.

Deli The Ruddy has a wide selection of local and European cheeses. We strive to offer a variety of local coastal cheeses for as well as the culturally diverse European cheeses. Pick up a selection of cheeses, olives and Lesley Stowe crackers and you’ll have a great appetizer or after dinner treat. Our ready to go entrée line from The Ruddy Kitchen offers an array of choices for your evening meal from whole cooked chickens to wild salmon with dill cream sauce. Bakery Freshly baked baguettes delivered every morning from the kitchen kick off the The Ruddy Kitchen’s bakery line. Fresh scones and muffins are available to enhance your morning coffee. Drop by for lunch and pick up a sandwich/sausage roll or wrap. Cookies, loaves and squares are a great choice for school lunches.

Bulk The beautiful thing about buying bulk is the dramatic reduction in packaging. The next best thing is that it tends to be cheaper. We carry a good selection of bulk ingredients for the discerning cook or baker…plus a few yummy snacks.

Health and Beauty With winter approaching we need to moisturize our skins and then protect them from the winter sun, the dry air and cold wind. At Ruddy we only stock natural body products, so you can lather up without the fear of spreading unsafe chemicals over your body. And don’t forget about to supporting our immune system and readying our defenses against the flu and cold season: a multi vitamin daily is a good start. We carry a strong line of supplements and remedies to get you through the winter.
