Minimising our Impact on the Environment
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

ReUse: The Ruddy Potato offers a variety of products which can be reused: Ruddy Potato bags, water bottles and dispensers and Onya shopping and produce bags. We encourage our customers to use travel mugs for their coffee, containers for transporting their lunch and shopping bags for their groceries.

Recycle: The Ruddy Potato offers a recycling program on all our returnable beverage containers. This includes Avalon glass milk bottles, so our customers have a sustainable way of purchasing milk from a local supplier. We also encourage our customers to use the facilities offered by Bowen Island Recycling Depot recycling containers and paper when ever possible. (click here for details).

At The Ruddy we compost all our green waste from The Ruddy Potato Store and The Ruddy Kitchen. The Compost at The Ruddy Garden provides nourishment for the fruits and vegetables we grow and later sell at the Ruddy Potato, illustrating the cycle of products no longer useful giving birth to new life.

Reduce: By not offering plastic shopping bags to our customers we have reduced our impact on the environment substantially. The Ruddy Potato’s customers were using over 1000 plastic shopping bags per week that’s over 50,000 bags per year. By simply changing our policy of offering plastic shopping bags we have eliminated this unsustainable and detrimental use of resources. We now offer Ruddy Potato reusable shopping bags, paper bags and boxes – for those who have forgotten their bags, all sustainable and environmentally friendly options for transporting your groceries from The Ruddy Potato to your home.
